We kicked off our DLWS year with a trip to Yosemite where we were blessed by the Photo Gods with a foot of new snow and the sun breaking through the storm our last morning. Talk about magical! It was like wandering live through the iconic images from the masters that have gone before us.

The monochromatic look of this stormy winter afternoon landscape just screamed B&W. I used NIK Color Efex Pro 2.0 B&W Infrared filter to convert this image.

What has become an annual adventure in Yellowstone’s Winter Wonderland is a perfect way to begin a new year of photography! I’m looking forward to sharing the magic of Yellowstone blanketed in her winter coat of snow in January 2008 with DLWS followed by my own Safari.

Our last day at the coast found me photographing Newport Bay Bridge in the pre-dawn light. I then headed down to the marina where I found several subjects depicting the beginning of crabbing season. What a great week at the beach testing out my new D3, 14-24mm and 24-70mm lenses in varying types of light and weather. They all performed beautifully. I can’t wait to get out and work with my new toys (I mean tools) again.

Working our way northward up theOregon coast we arrived in Newport just in time to head out to Yaquina Head Lighthouse for sunset. The photo gods smiled.
