While Moose was happy to see a winter storm move in, I was happy to see the winter storm move on and the sun come out. Our last morning at Bandon, I awoke to a hint of light so, I grabbed my camera and headed to the beach to catch the sun cresting over the hills and lighting the sky. After a week of working with the Nikon D3 I have to say that I am very impressed. I LOVE WHAT THE FULL FRAME SENSOR DOES WITH WIDE ANGLE LENSES. I didn’t realize just how much I missed that. I finished the image with a PhotoFrame from OnOne Software.

With another blustery day on the Oregon coast, I did not put my camera away and sit by the fire. Instead I went in search of more B&W infrared subjects. We ended up at one of my favorite locations on the Oregon Coast, Cape Blanco Lighthouse…Listed on the National Register of Historic Places Oregon’s Most Westerly, Oldest (Circa 1870) and Highest Above the Sea.

Safaris are filling nicely. Here is a breakdown of Safaris for 2008.
Yellowstone is Full, there are openings for the rest of 2008. Bosque 2008 TBA.

The Oregon Coast was pummeled with 125mph winds and torrential rain for three days. We arrived on the third day and just missed the havoc. I awoke this morning to a calm, foggy day and knew instantly what I wanted to do…B&W Infrared! I grabbed my new D3 and AF-S 24-70mm and headed to the beach to photograph the incoming tide. (top photo). After breakfast we headed to Shore Acrea in hopes of finding big waves and sure enough, they were huge! But, the fog hindered our attempts at capturning the waves crashing hundres of feet into the air. Instead, I captured the aftermath of a big wave capturing the last rivulets of water running down the dark rocks.

You can imagine my excitement when I arrived home from Bosque to find my D3 waiting for me. What a fine piece of equipment! If feels great in my hands. It performs like the fine tool that it is. I can hardly wait to get out and put it through it’s paces over the next few days at the coast. I will be writing a review of the D3 and the D300 for Photoshop User….so, stay tuned.
