Just Ask

I am taking a few days off before heading to McAllen for my So Texas Bird Adventure. Steve, playing host, took us to Fort Worth to see the cattle drive down main street. What a sight it was seeing the cowboys herding Texas Longhorns down main street. One cowboy in particular caught my attention and I had to follow him back to the stockyards to see if I could get a photo. He graciously said yes and posed for us. Wanting an old time look, I knew I was going to use NIK Silver Effex Pro 3.0 to process the image…

Next we wandered down to Deep Elum in so Texas where there is this funky gas station…

As we were working the gas station, a car pulled in and stopped right in front of the station. We sat there watching the man in the car watch us for a minute and then he backed up so we could continue to shoot. I went over to the car and asked him if the station was his to which he replied, “yes. He was very nice and told us to continue shooting and went inside. A few minutes later he peeked outside and seeing us still there smiled and shook his head. I walked up to him and asked him if he would mind if we photographed him too. He said yes and inside we went. I had him sit near a dirty window where the light was diffused and snapped this photo…

While I am not normally a people photographer but, when a great opportunity arises, it’s fun to get outside the comfort zone. Maybe a little of Joe is wearing off on me. So, if you see a great subject that you want to photograph…just ask!
